Shocked and kinda disgusted....
Just when I think that India is improving… something happens which brings me back to reality…
A colleague of mine, who stays in Bangalore narrated the incident to me… on Tuesday night, my colleague and his wife were returning at around 9.30 after shopping trip.. on the Airport Road,,, which is usually jam packed till late midnight!! Opposite the Manipal hospital an next to the Leela Palace hotel at the signal, they noticed a bunch of guys stopping a car with about 4 girls in it, they stopped the car and started pounding it with hockey sticks.. the 6 foot burly driver had in the mean time ran across the road and was watching the spectacle. Some of the other vehicle owners decide to intervene (including my colleague).. however they soon stopped when one of them mentioned that the brutal group may have a gun, by this time one of the guys was pulling out one of the gals and thrashing her around for daring to leave him.. my colleague and some others drove forward and found a cop…
now lets get the situation straight… there are 5 guys pounding 4 gals with hockey sticks 100 meters down the road and what does the cop say “ITS NOT MY JURISDICTION”……………….
The 'do /try gooders'tried to contact the airport road police station on the phone, however as usual, noone took up the phone..similarly with the womens cell!! My colleague decided to continue home, with his wife praying for the girls safety…
I am disgusted at nearly all parties(excluding the gals here!! They were badly beaten to criticize them more is inhuman!! )
1) My colleague mentioned that these guys were normal educated looking 23-25 yr olds.. not a rowdy bunch that we see at the movies..so why do some educated men think its birthright to thrash girls
2) My colleague , the driver and all the so called men who tried to help… they could have intervened in some way here..they just continued home… for gods sake…so what if those guys had a gun..they could have rushed into Leela or Manipal hospital and called local security
And finally and not the least our honored Police force……
“NOT my Jurisdiction ..what Kind of reply to that…Cmon!!!!! Forget that’s its their job and they have taken a oath to protect the people… but to be afraid to face a couple of guys ..maybe due to the redtape , is pathetic..and sickeining
Basic human tendency is to help has somehow been lost in this maddening world of “u live in your world and I in mine”!!!!!!
I am not degrading the entire force or the stronger sex.. I am sure there are a few noble souls out there who help ..someone actually reported it in the papers, but it seems it was given a few lines in the corner a daily
And yes to top it all off.. I mentioned this incident to a couple of my colleagues, some sympathized, some were enraged, some had the attitude “what can anyone do”… and the WORST one…”the girls probably deserved it!!!!!!!”
That Shocked me… do people actually think its OK to thrash other people around, if they deem that they have done some wrong,,, is it ok to hurt somebody if that person thinks it right??

Nowhere in your story do I find a line that says that the girls screamed for help or cried for help. If they did, definetly someone would have...I guess.
Other than that, they could carry with them pepper spray and give them what they deserved in their face. Even if the girls had done something wrong, the solution does not lie in beating her.
